What is Essential Evidence Plus CME?

Physicians using Essential Evidence Plus to inform and support their clinical decisions may now earn Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for this activity.

American Medical Association (AMA) Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA)

As stated in the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award and credit system, "Internet point of care (PoC) CME describes structured, self-directed, online learning by physicians on topics relevant to their clinical practice. … Learning for this activity is driven by a reflective process in which physicians must document their clinical question, the sources consulted and the application to practice. … Physicians conducting structured online searches on clinical topics may claim a half (0.5) AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for documented completion (either at the point of care or later) of the three-step learning cycle." For physicians claiming Internet point of care CME, there is a limit of twenty (20) AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ per year.

Accessing selected Essential Evidence Plus material via search allows you to qualify for one AMA PRA credit:

College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) MainPro+® program

The CFPC website (https://www.cfpc.ca/CPD/) states that graduating from an accredited Canadian family medicine residency program is only the first step on the family physician’s educational journey. Family physicians must keep current with medical and health care developments throughout their careers. This lifelong learning can be achieved by participating in activities that constitute continuing professional development (CPD). The CFPC encourages and supports family physicians in meeting their CPD goals through a variety of programs and services including the Mainpro+® credit reporting program used by family physicians to document and monitor personal CPD progress.

This Self-Learning program [Patient Oriented Evidence that Matters (POEMs)] CPD Program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for up to 26 Mainpro+ credits. POEMs are delivered to members of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) via email accompanied by an Information Assessment Method questionnaire and CMA members can also access via the Essential Evidence Plus Platform (available through a link from cma.ca/joule/cma.ca)
